The room itself

Because I purchased a house built in the 1830's, the basement had been refitted with lots of wiring, a furnace, and plumbing - all of which had not been invented when the house was built. I had very little space to fit in a new room without removing pipes and repositioning the furnace. Therefore, I had to build a long narrow room. My room is about 16 feet long but only 6 feet wide. The ceiling is height is only 6 3/4feet. I built the room with 2 x 4 stick construction and plasterboard. The base frame that touches the cement floor is pressure treated and attached with concrete gripping nails. The room is insulated with fiberglass batting and has a sliding window and a wooden door on one end. The plasterboard was painted with a latex primer followed by two coats of a high gloss white latex paint. I have attached white plastic shower curtain liners to the walls to protect the paint from the bird mess. These are purchased in a "dollar store". I allow them to "air out" for a few days outdoors, and then hang them by punching the tops through finishing nails which are nailed in just below the ceiling line. They can replaced or washed when the are soiled.
