The Cages I must admit that as I expanded my operation and changed my emphasis to society finches, I created too many cage types. I have seen breeders with more complex set ups than mine, but if I had to do it over, I would have cages in only three sizes - breeding cages, small flights, and large flights. With the exception of a set of 10 metal breeding cages, all of my cages are handmade from wood. I have 8 cages that are 48" long x 14" deep x 18" tall, 4 cages 48" long x 18" deep x 18: tall, and 6 large breeding cages that are 33" long x 14" deep x 18" tall. They are made of 3/8 inch plywood (top, bottom, and sides) and the front and back are 1/2 inch x 1 inch "galvanized after" cage wire mesh. "Galvanized after" wire is treated after it is woven and this makes the joins less likely to rust. It is more expensive but well worth it. |
