What to pair? The Japanese breeders recommend that only a few combinations be made when using frills. Do not be discouraged by the potential problems when breeding frills. The following advice should lead to good results. Acceptible pairings include, bonten x chiyoda (to attempt to get chiyoda bonten), chunagon x chiyoda (to attempt to get the dainagon), and normals x any frill type. For example, dainagons x normals can yield any type of frill since frill appears dominant and dainagons have all the genes in one bird. Unacceptible pairings include bonten x bonten (not lethal but you may get poorly arranged double crests) and chunagon x bonten (While these pairings do may not result in birds up to standard, they should not result in defective offspring). Danger of bird defects can occur when the following pairings are made: chiyoda bonten x chiyoda bonten, chunagon x chunagon, dainagon x dainagon, chiyoda x chiyoda, chiyoda bonten x chiyoda, chiyoda bonten x dainagon, king x any other frill, and chunagon x dainagon. Some of these bad pairings, if attempted will result in weak babies or deformed babies usually with curled feet. NOTE: Frills can be put into any color from including pearl. The "Holy Grails" in Japan are the pearl gray dainagon and the albino dainagon. There is no restriction with colors and dozens and dozens of possibilities exist with frills and colors. What fun!! See how long it takes for you to make a pearl gray dainagon! |
