Mutation
2 - Breast Crest (= Chiyoda)
- I have also imported this lovely frill from Japan and the
inheritance has not been published in English. The mutation
causes chest feathers to part and make an swirl. The
Japanese favor the upward swirl and consider birds with all
the chest feathers facing up in one direction as the
superior phenotype. As with the pearls there is great
variability in the quality of the frill. I have recovered
some chiyoda with feathers pointing up, down, and sideways
and some with only a little frill visible on the chest.
However, my last clutch was amazing. As soon as the babies
starting getting feathers, I knew they would be grade "A"
frills and they are.
