Leg Banding (using split bands) - continued As you can see by the photo, the leg band is stretched, slit-side down onto the applicator so that the slit is on the grooved side of the applicator. The bird is held in one hand and the applicator slid over the leg with the band stretched open. Your thumb slides the band off the applicator until in closes over the leg. If the band gets stuck and is pinching on the leg itself, don't panic. A gentle push will often put it on. If you are concerned about cutting the leg or you are having serious trouble with a misplaced band, keep a leg band cutter nearby so that you can cut it off and try again.
