Temperatures for your Finches My discussion here on temperatures refers only to Society Finches and Zebra Finches, the two species that I breed. Society finches are much more tolerant of colder temperatures than many other finches, and while my Society finches are never exposed to temperatures below 55F, I am told by many a British breeder that they can tolerate 45F if the adjustment is made slowly. Alternatively, you can keep a heat lamp outside the cage near a perch to help them stay warm. If you have your choice I would say they are most happy at 65-80F. Since I have only one bird room the Zebra Finches stay at the same temperatures and are perfectly happy. If you have many species, you may find that those that like it warmer can get that warmth by putting them in the upper cages of a bird room since it is often warmer near the ceiling where light fixtures give off heat. |
