Water Without water some finches can die within two days! Fresh cool tap water should be provided daily. You may wish to check with a local vet to see if you tap water is suitable for birds. Mine is fine. I use large water tubes for my flights and small ones for breeding cages. My tube waterers are washed out and the mouthpiece gets a scrubbing using a baby's toothbrush available in drug stores. Every week or so I take all of my tube waterers and sterilize them in 10% laundry bleach for 3 or 4 hours. They are rinsed lots of times and allowed to remain on a drying rack for a week or so to dissipate any bleach odors. Obviously, I keep plenty of spare tubes around. If possible do not use your water as a solution to dissolve vitamins since vitamins can foul water in as little as 8 hours in warm weather. If you find a vegetable or soft food your finches are very fond of you can buy powdered bird vitamins like Nekton, Prime or Vionate that can be sparingly sprinkled over their favorite soft food. Vitamins are discussed on a separate page. |
