sex-linked - a trait that is present on a sex-chromosome. In mammals sex-chromosomes are XX for females and XY for males. This is not the case in birds. In birds, females are ZW and males are ZZ so sex-linked traits always show up in females but can be single-factor traits in males. Sex-linked traits, whether dominant or recessive, are displayed by female birds. See my two published articles (1) (2) for more information on sex-linkage.
