How to Show Birds (continued) You will need to make or purchase show cages. With finches ,the rules are very lax (as compared to most other cage birds which have specific cage requirements). Your birds will present itself much better if it is in a clean show cage of appropriate design. The show cage allows you to put the bird in from the side and then close the door with a latch. Line the bottom of the cage with a few pieces of newspaper cut to size and then fill the entire cage floor with seed mix. This not only looks nice but gives the bird a supply of seed without using any see cups that would hinder viewing of the bird. Purchase a small water tube and put it with the lip at cage level but not too close to the perch. You do not want to obstruct the judges view.
