Showing birds can be lots of fun. You will meet fellow breeders, see new species, and learn what traits are important as you try to improve your flock. You will see birds and supplies for sale and make connections with private breeders and the trade. The down side is that you may need to put up with some egos, suffer through some bad judging, and learn that breeding is not what is judged, it is the bird itself - whether it be captured from the wild or purchased from someone else's breeding efforts. Yet, the good outweigh the bad and I find showing to be a social event where good conversation and bad food is a guarantee. Below are links that will help you learn about showing. They are intended to teach a novice. So, if you have a basement filled with ribbons, back to the bird room! |
